You can find hundreds of webpages regarding this topic if you choose to search for them but keep in mind. Most people who sugar think that their method of hair removal is the one and only way to remove hair. Sort of like asking a person what car is the best they will most likely tell you the car that they own.
First off I want to say I have nothing against sugaring.
I actually traveled to Germany in 2018 and trained with one of Europe's top sugaring experts for 7 days. I am not in the waxing business, I'm in the hair removal business and if there was a better wax to remove hair I want to learn it and use it, Make sense?

Here is the breakdown
SUGARING
Sugar used for hair removal is a more organic way of removing hair. It is a ball of sugar paste rolled up in the fingers and dragged across the skin against the hair growth and quickly pulled back with a flick of the wrist to remove the hair in the direction of hair growth. This is done 3 to 4 times in the same area to completely remove the hair from the skin. People who are big advocates of sugaring claim sugar is more organic then wax. This is true, however we are using it to remove hair from the skin, not eat it. |
WAXING
Wax used for hair removal is made up of many different ingredients. There are thousands of different type of waxes out there designed to accomplish one thing. Hair removal. I have developed 5 waxes that are extremely effective at removing hair with minimal discomfort. Wax is made with polymer. Using a polymer blend for waxing is optimal and beneficial because it removes the hair from the root but minimizes sticking to the skin. This causes less irritation and hair breakage. Using chemists to develop highly effective waxes allowed me to have different targeted waxes for different situations. Sugar is one size fits all. |
MY COMPARISON
If sugaring was a better form of hair removal I would be doing it. After learning how to sugar I had to make a decision. Do I wax or do I sugar? Not really possible to do both because you will never really get proficient at either. I chose to wax and here are the reasons.
These are some of the reasons I decided NOT to sugar but to continue to perfect the waxing experience. Hope to see you in the future. Thank you
If sugaring was a better form of hair removal I would be doing it. After learning how to sugar I had to make a decision. Do I wax or do I sugar? Not really possible to do both because you will never really get proficient at either. I chose to wax and here are the reasons.
- First the skill of the technician is what will ultimately determine how painful or painless your hair removal session is as well as how effective.
- Sugaring is more intrusive. Sugaring is done 100% by hand. Constantly dragging the sugar paste over an area over and over again especially when doing a Brazilian can be quite intrusive. Wax is applies using a new wooden spatula and for the most part only applied once or twice. This makes for a much less intrusive service.
- Waxing is faster. A typical Brazilian wax service is completed in about 12 to 15 minutes. The same sugaring service will take between 30 to 40 minutes if done correctly. Who wants to lay there for more then a 1/2 hour to complete a service? Legs will also take 2 to 3 times longer. I have been waxing for 15 years now. I know the last thing customers want is for their technician to be playing around in their private business any longer then necessary.
- Waxing is less expensive. Because most of your hair is removed with a single wax strip on a certain area waxing is more efficient. Sugaring takes a lot longer because you need to go over an area over and over again. More time equals more money. People that perform a service generally charge the customer based on how much time it takes. Very little of the cost is product.
- Waxing is more targeted. My wax (and most maxes) have a specific use. I have different waxes for thin hair, thick hair, sensitive skin and delicate areas. My waxes are specially formulated to perform a specific task and perform it efficiently. I will use at least 2 but may be as many as 4 different waxes to complete a Brazilian wax. For the most part technicians work with one type of sugar paste.
These are some of the reasons I decided NOT to sugar but to continue to perfect the waxing experience. Hope to see you in the future. Thank you
